The Beong Kak Education Center (BEC) is located in one of the poorest districts in Phnom Penh and was established in efforts to enable children to go to school who normally wouldn't be able to. The monks who run the school select 50 children to enroll in the school. Before enrolling these children, the monks have to convince the parents to allow their children to go to school. The family loses immediate revenue by sending their children to school because otherwise they would be in the streets working. It is the monks who must explain to these parents that only by educating their children is a break through poverty possible.
Meet Sekkae. He put my shades on and felt so cool. While I was sitting down by a fan, Sekkae came up to me and grabbed my hand to play a game of thumb war. It was then that I noticed he is missing his right index finger. Sekkae's mother cut off his finger as punishment for returning home without enough money from his day of work. He is 12 years old.

One of my many beautiful students. The children are all so lovely. They greet you with a bow, a smile, and say "Hello, Teacher".
The kids line up to introduce themselves to me.

Her tentacles says things like "Friendship, Future, Strength, Learning"
