Another Tuk Tuk Adventure

A couple of days ago I explored around Battambang. The city is much smaller than Phnom Penh but more charming.

Women making rice paper.

The finished product.

Women harvesting rice.

This is Wat Ek Phnom. It was built in the 1100's and is crumbling. Nevertheless, I thought it was beautiful.

This man lives in the temple and watches over it.

He lives in the only room, the prayer room.

The prayer room.

From Wat Ek Phnom, you can see this large Buddha statue. It was supposed to be built bigger but construction was altered because people thought it took away from the beauty of Wak Ek Phnom.

Statues next to Buddha.

Condiments at the lunch table: cigarettes, candy & eggs.

I only asked to be taken to Wat Ek Phnom but my driver insisted on taking me to some other places. Our first stop was to a place where they make cheese from fish. Yes, apparently that's possible.

The smell was horrendous.

Next my driver took me to a hut where cakes are made in the shell of bamboo.

Inside is rice and coconut milk.

My driver insisted that I try one and bought one for us to share.

Surprisingly, I had an appetite after the fish market. The cake was delicious!
