Angkor Wat

Cambodia was under control of the Angkor empire for more than 600 years from 802 AD to 1432. During this time, many temples were built. Angkor Wat is the most visited of these temples. After seeing this temple, I understand why. After walking through the front gate of Angkor Wat, which is quite impressive by itself, I was shocked when my eyes met this impressive view of the temple (last photo). Angkor Wat, a funerary temple, is believed to have been built as for King Suryavarman II circa 1112-52 in honor of the Hindu deity Vishnu. Depictions of both Buddhist and Hindu gods can be seen in the temples of Angkor which is attributed to the rise and fall of Buddhism and Hinduism in Cambodia.
